happy 4th of july

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

happy fourth of july. i’m sick. i woke up at 7:30 this morning, went downstairs and soon fell asleep until 11:30ish. after that, i ate bbq and watched italy go on to beat germany and advance to the world cup finals.

i’ve been more interested in soccer these days more than in the past since my latest visit to europe. i was introduced to zidane and henry. WOW. they’re like kobe and shaq! so now, i sit there like i always do during basketball and football finals and scream and jump and belch like one of the guys. go les bleus!

i visited my friend angelica up in the city yesterday. it was so weird to see her holding a newborn… to see her as a mom. she looked beat and soo tired; poor thing. luckily, she has an awesome and supportive husband. they named their son pascal or pasquale bernard and he already speaks french! well, if mark keeps speaking to him in french, then the little one is going to learn french before he learns english.

it was a nice visit. she enjoyed getting newborn size cloths from france as no one ever gives that size and she needed more, but also because they are francophiles who think that french baby cloths are zee best!  they are going to give me a list of things to bring back for the baby the next time i go to paris.

so i was in walnut last weekend for my friend’s baby shower. i ended up staying an extra day, so i decide to paint something that was “walnut”ish. i wanted to go outside to paint, but it was waaaaaaaaaaay tooooo hot, so i painted a portion of my parents backyard in the comforts of an air-conditioned house. here’s what i got.

it’s not totally finished. i realized later that i probably should include another banister on the other side of the gazebo and there are more tree leaves on the left side of the roof above the koi pond.

i think i shall call it… “walnut: 91789″

my mom and dad loved it and asked me to paint two other niches of the backyard so that they can hang the three outside in the patio. we’ll see… i have to be inspired (hee hee hee)

this waterlily scene is something that i worked on before leaving for walnut. i tried to do an impression of monet’s waterlily - the one found at the musee d’orsay, but as you can see… it’s nothing like it. i don’t even want to post up a copy of the real thing. it’s embarrassing. but then again, monet painted in the impressionist style while i paint in the i’ve-not-taken-any-painting-or-sketching-classes-ever style. now that i think about it though, i would totally buy my $500 painting over spending $5million on some over priced monet any day!
