ma melodie 2

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

** UPDATE ** okay. i’ve got a link to the video of the song that steph gave me. the video is as “different” as the words. i still love this song and i often listen to it as i do my hour walk in the evening. listen and watch video

so i’ve been listening to this artist simply known as M.

my friend gave me a cd with four of this artist’s songs. my favorite so far has to be ma melodie. i don’t understand the words, so i am really able to concentrate on the guitar and the type of mood this song sets. i have to say that i’ve been in this type of music’s mood for awhile; hence the reason why it’s one of my most listened to songs aside from james blunt’s good bye my lover and you’re beautiful.

not understanding the words allows me to imagine that the singer is singing something romantic to his girl. either he is expressing his undying love for her or he is talking about the pain that he feels of not being able to be with her. it just sounds so sensual and sad. that’s the mood that i am in. sad not sensual. like this sadness is never going to go away. like i just want to hide from everyone for awhile. just for awhile. just to cry a bit. just for some peace from all the trivial things that i get sad about.

my curiosity brought me to search for the lyrics of ma melodie. i was lucky to find a page that yahoo was able to translate. upon reading the lyrics in english, i was kinda confused. all of the fantasizing that i went through were all wrong. hence the word fantasy - i guess. it talks about looking for the right word, but he can’t find it. but it goes on to talk about water? i thought that this may have been a bad translation.

well, i found another site that gave me more information and insight into the song. actually, it’s a comment that someone posted on a webpage. here’s that person’s insight into the song:

For you non-Francophones, the lyrics are playing off the words “melodie” and “melo” (French for “corny”). The singer is complaining that he can’t find any clever words to sing, and then his girl tells him that his melody is melo. “That phrase sounds great!” he thinks, “That’s what I’ll sing about. Love ya babe!”
C’est magnifique, n’est-ce pas?

i was so disappointed that it’s a song “about nothing” (seinfeld themes! argg!). totally blows my fantasy away. oh well. i’m still going to listen to the song and imagine that it’s still a love song. here are the words:

J’aimerais trouver les mots
Les mots justes, les mots qu’il faut
Mais tous les mots sont démodés
Tu sais

Alors j’écris je cherche encore
Le mot vrai
Le mot plus fort
J’ai l’impression qu’j’trouverais jamais
C’est vrai
Je sèche comme tu vois
Et toi

Tu me dis qu’elle est mélo
Tu me dis qu’elle aimait l’eau
Ma mélodie

Tu me dis qu’elle est mélo
Qu’elle aimait l’eau ma mélodie
La musique de tes mots
S’impose
S’installe sur ce thème
Je t’aime

Tu me dis qu’elle est mélo
Tu me dis qu’elle aimait l’eau
Ma mélodie
