le premier jour

today was the first day of class at l’ alliance francaise. i arrived to the class about 5 minutes early. by 9:10, the class still has not started. why? because the teacher wasn’t even there yet! she comes in a little after 9:10 with her newly purchased coffee. many of us were new this week. in fact, there was only 3 people who continued on from last week. there was a total of about 9 students + teacher makes us ten. we began by talking about what we did this weekend. then we reviewed the homework from last friday. as i reviewed along, i noticed that they were on a chapter that was way way WAY far advanced that what i’ve already taken. NO WONDER they all understood each other so well! i understood what was going on, but i felt like i was going to struggle really hard in the class. aside from that, i wouldn’t know the stuff that they’ve already covered - the stuff that i’ve not covered.
so i switched. turns out that they had to put me in a class that is currently going over the topics of my last week of classes when i was here last october. does that make sense? in other words, i’ve already covered the current topic last october so this whole week is going to be review for me. just as well anyway, this week the the passé composé with is the past tense. very important as most conversation revolves around the past tense.
there are six of us and we are all girls. one gal is from brazil, another from vietnam, three of us from the states and one from … i don’t know yet. the teacher just kinda included me in things and even volunteered me to do a ‘telephone conversation’ demonstration with the other american gal - in french of course. this girl kept wanting to speak in english with me and i’m thinking to myself … “stop talking to me in english! et parlé avec moi en français!.” i didn’t pay how much money for some girl to immerse me in english! luckily i’ve got the brazilian and vietnamese girl.
oh and that american, she lives in mill valley up in san francisco. so, we’re totally best friends now. yippy. i am so excited.
NOT!
i grabbed coffee not at the starbucks but a machine made one. it’s only 50 euro cents. starbucks is $7
