reality check and selling property right now

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

i’ve been getting little bits and pieces of reality during my visit here in paris. i got an email from S2BX letting me know that the property in florida, if sold, would cause us to loose our $45,000 investment. whatever gains we got are lost with the decline in the real estate market and the rest including the original invest will go to the realtor. she suggested holding the property for 2-3 years more and prices should be okay again. the place is in a really good location. he suggested that we do what i originally suggested which was to hold the property as 50-50 partners. he’s worried about affording the redwood shores AND florida properties on his salary without my working. he doesn’t realize that he can afford it. he already saves the maximum for his 401k retirement fund (investment) and by lowering that and putting some of the money in realty, he is even more diversifying his portfolio. besides, property is a better investment in the long run than a 401K. correct that. both are good to have. it’s just usually, one’s investment creates more wealth in realty than fund investments. also, given his salary, he needs all the tax deductions he can get and that’s available through mortgage interest deductions.

he won’t be taking care of the properties by himself anymore because i will find work soon. everything else will be on the side. i decided not to do the medical thing as it goes totally against what i want… i think. all i’ve been thinking about is how to stay in paris for a total of 4 - 5 more months to become really fluent in french. is that my dreaming-non-reality-self thinking again? my therapist did tell me not to stop dreaming BIG. there’s such a pull here for me.
